Nuangan

The name Nuangan originated from the Manobo word which means water and from the Ilocano word “Nuang”, meaning carabao. Both Manobos and Ilocanos are the

first settlers in the area. In this part of the city, there was a river which would not dry up even during hot summer season. All people, even carabaos, used to bath at the said river. They decided to name the place Nuangan. Barangay Nuangan was created and became a regular barrio through a Municipal Council Resolution No. 50 series of 1950. The first appointed Barrio Lieutenant was Catigan Icdang wherein he was able to establish the first primary school in the Barangay situated at about 50 meters from the present Barangay Hall. But the school lasted only for three years due to lack of enrollees and some students transferred to Manongol Elementary School and Pilot Elementary School situated at Barangay Poblacion, Kidapawan. The second appointed Barrio Lieutenant was Mr. Crisostomo David. Andres Tamayo succeeded him in 1964 as the first elected Barangay Captain. People used cariton to pass through the mud-covered road. It was then the time where two roads were opened connecting Barangay Pobalcion from Barangay Nuangan (Alonzo’s Farm) and another road connecting Barangay Nuangan (Pascual Farm) from Barangay Manongol. In 1969, Mr. Felipe Espejo became the Barangay Captain. He was succeeded by Mr. Miguel Pascual in 1971. In 1972, time of the

In the year 1978, Mr. Zonen Roldan donated .5 hectares of land and was able to establish a temporary 1 Unit-Two Classroom Building through Pintakasi that combined Grade I and Grade II; Grade III and Grade IV. The first teachers were Ms. Milagros Pedregosa and Ms. Michielle D. David. In the later part of the year, one permanent building was constructed having four rooms for Grade I, II, III and IV. In 1983, Mr. Florentino Antolin was elected as Barangay Captain and was followed by Mr. Antonio Napoles in 1986. Two permanent school building was constructed for Nuangan Elementary School during his time. From 1987 up to present, Mr. Joseph Tumonas was elected as Barangay Chairman.
