New Bohol
After World War II, a group of families from the Island of Bohol inhabited the thickly forested area of Kidapawan. It was then called Mateo because of the river passing through the center of the place.
The fertile land in the area has led to the cultivation of forestland to agriculture production like rice, corn, coffee and abaca by the pioneer people in the Barangay. In the middle part of 1949, a Catholic church was established in the area with fifteen (15) members. It was then at the same year that the barrio has celebrated the first Patronal Fiesta, May 10, 1949 to be exact. Parents in the Barangay found it difficult sending their children to school because at that time, the nearest school was situated at Barrio Lanao. Children need to
cross creeks for them to reach the school. In 1950, a primary school was established to cater primary education in the Barangay. Mr. Tolentino was the head Teacher. In the same year, fourteen (14) residents gathered purposely to agree on what will be the name of the place. Out of fourteen individuals, ten (10) were Boholanos and the rest (4) were Cebuanos. That led to the idea of naming the place New Bohol, which later the residents adopted. In the early part of 1959, an energetic man who was close to a political leader of Kidapawan in the person of Mr. Alberto Banga, Sr. passed a petition to the barrio people asking them to support and sign the said petition so the area be separated from Barangay Mateo and making Mateo River as the boundary. Fortunately, the petition was granted was named as one of the Barangays composing Municipality of Kidapawan through Resolution No. 50 series of 1959, thus adopting the name New Bohol. Mr. Alberto Banga, Sr. was then appointed as Tenyente del Barrio. Series of incidents happened in the barrio in 1970’s to 1980’s. At around 1972, an unwanted natural calamity happened wherein a super typhoon named Titang visited the area. The disaster greatly affected the way of living of the citizens living in the area. The calamity has resulted to the damage of crops of farmers; death of their farm animals; and even caused damage to their homes. On September 8, 1984, a group of PNP Kidapawan personnel was ambushed by lawless elements named CPP/NPA wherein 15 casualties were recorded; 12 of them were members of PNP Kidapawan; two
(2) were civilians; 1 member of the New People’s Army. Moreover, July 5, 1985, a group of army detailed in the barrage massacred eight (8) teenagers. The massacre has resulted to the death of six (6) individuals and two (2) of them
were seriously wounded. Foundation Anniversary is celebrated every last Wednesday of the month of July.
