Magsaysay

Before, Barangay Magsaysay of Kidapawan City, Cotabato was created into a disctrict and was an independent Barangay, it was only a Sitio of Barangay Lanao. At first, Sitio Magsaysay has no name. The early settlers

of this particular Sitio were Mr. & Mrs. Isidoro Lonzaga, Mr. Jeorge Pansacala, Mr. Petronilo Sarin, and Mrs. Flora Sarino Vda. De Bolasa, Mr. & Mrs. Conrado Lonzaga, Mrs. Apolonio Pandio, Mr. Teofilo Familgan, Mr. Bienvinido flores, Mr. & Mrs. Alejandro Rabago, and Mr. & Mrs. Marcelo Sayago. In the year 1964, these early settlers conducted a meeting. They agreed to put up one grade school, as proposed by Mr. Dominador Carbonel, to be named after the late President of the Philippines who was the symbol of the farmers, President Ramon Magsaysay. Utilizing the building of the Farmers Association and the one hectare land area donated by Mr. and Mrs. Isidro Lonzaga, a school was established and was named as Magsaysay Elementary School. In the same year also, the Sitio became known as Sitio Magsaysay, in respect and in honor of the late President Ramon Magsaysay. In the 1981 local election, Sitio Magsaysay again had two (2) kagawads in the Barangay Council of Barangay Lanao in the persons of Mr. Carlos Jangolan, Sr. and Mr. Quintin Ortega, Sr.

 

Through their efforts they gathered the sitio settlers to plan for the proposal of segregating Sitio Magsaysay from its mother Barangay. They agreed and with Mr. Romeo Alibangbang who worked on all the necessary documents, a petition on segregating Sitio Magsaysay from its mother Barangay Lanao was submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Considering that there was a need for a plebiscite having full effect and ratification of the creation, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan set the plebiscite on November 29, 1986. On that same day, majority of the votes favored Sitio Magsaysay of Barangay Lanao, Kidapawan, Cotabato to be separated from its mother Barangay and proclaimed as an independent Barangay now known to be Barangay Magsaysay.
