Kalaisan

Long ago, Barangay Kalaisan was just part of Sitio Singao. The place was then inhabited mostly by Manobos and Bagobos. At that time, the place was

considered a virgin forest because all you can see are tall trees, green herbs and most of all the beautiful “LAIS”. Several years after, in 1935, Christians coming from Bohol Province began to settle in this thick-forested area which led to the discovery of the place - full of “LAIS”. The early Christian settlers comprising of 90 percent Boholano’s who were known of their thriftiness and industry then introduced rapid development. The first Christian settlers in the area were Pedro Paguican, Roman Jamero, Braulio Dano and Braulio Daquis. The people in the community have planned and initiated separating the place from its mother Barangay, Singao. Even it is not yet proclaimed a Barangay, the leaders then agreed to name the place “KALAISAN” from the word LAIS, a kind of specie of the bamboo family which happened to be abundant in the area, then adding the prefix “KA” forming the word KALAISAN, which means a place plenty of lais. In the year 1959, it was created a regular Barangay through the efforts initiated by the community leaders by

virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 50. The first appointed Barangay Chairman was Mr. Ciriaco Paguican.
