Indangan
Barangay Indangan got its name from the word “Indang” which refer to a big tree with hard trunk and big leaves. It is a unique kind of forest tree because its trunk and leaves
are colored with microscopic hairs that are very itchy. People who happened to came in contact with this plant will surely suffer itchy skin all over the body. During the early days, when people were not yet accustomed to using directions, they use this tree as trademark when asked where they live, where their house are, where their farms are and etc. They used to answer “there in Indang” meaning in the vicinity of the famous “Indang tree”. As years went by, it has become a habit and was ultimately called Indangan. In about 1940, it
was inhabited mostly by Bagobo as their first “Tenyete del Barrio”. Serafin Panes, a was his Vive Tenyente del Barrio. In about 1954, Makilala become a separate Municipality with Saguing River as its boundary between Kidapawan. The leaders of Bagobo group were Onggok, Ogot, Buned and Makulanas. They called their sitios as Upper Indangan because of geographical location. They retain Simbanan Buned as their Tenyente del Barrio. The people of lower Indangan were mostly Bagobos too, headed by Pandangan Amas, Aloy Ebboy, Ali Emboc, Walan Amas, Layuman Emboc, Adas Ambi, Siaman Maway, Saliman, Ladday, and Atic Landas. They formed the sitio, now known to be lower Indangan. They made Serafin Panes as the Tenyente del Barrio of Lower Indangan. It became a regular Barrio through Executive Order No. 82 series of 1947.
