Amas is one of the oldest barangays of Kidapawan City. This barangay was named

after the celebrated Datu AMAS, son of Datu Dumali the owner of the most thickly inhabited area of Kidapawan. According to the oldest folk of Kidapawan, Sultan Jesus G. Gayotin, Datu Amas loves to hike. During his unnumbered trek, he reached different places like Davao, Dadiangas, Libak, Agusan and Malaybalay. In one of his walks, he brought home with him one of the sweetest varieties of banana and shared it with his people. The settlers loved the taste of the said fruit that made them decide to propagate more in their respective places. When Datu Amas died, they called the banana plant as Amas variety.

As early as 1904, a bill was passed through Senator Piang, permitting Christian settlers from Luzon and Visayas to migrate to Mindanao, hence named as Land of Promise. Among the first Christian settlers who inhabited Amas were the Gayotin’s, Guadalupe, Andico’s, Calubians, Bernabe, Brazas, Cipriano, Madayag, Mationg, Baldove and Pijo. Amas became a regular Barrio through Resolution No. 97, Ordinance No. 34 of 1964. Mr. Jesus Gayotin was the first designated Barrio Lieutenant by the District Municipal Mayor in 1945.
